I am a certified provider of Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics (CBIT), a proven, non-drug therapy designed to help individuals effectively manage and reduce their tics.
What is CBIT?
CBIT is a structured, collaborative, therapeutic approach that focuses on empowering individuals to gain control over their tics through several key components:
Awareness: Patients learn to recognize their tics and the urges that lead to them, fostering greater self-awareness.
Competing Behavior: When the urge to tic arises, patients are taught to perform an alternative behavior, which can help interrupt the tic cycle.
Environmental Changes: We work together to identify specific situations that exacerbate tics and explore strategies to modify these environments for better outcomes.
Stress Management: Patients are equipped with tools to prevent or cope with stress, a common trigger for tic exacerbation.
Typically, CBIT sessions are conducted weekly over a span of about 10 weeks in my office environment.
Research indicates that over half of those who engage in CBIT experience significant reductions in tic severity, making it a valuable option for those seeking relief.
